Day Of The Dead 2013
In honor of the Day of the Dead today... better known, in our book, as All-Souls Day... and also called, down there, in Mexico, where it is referred to, actually, as El Dia de Los Muertos...
Not the dead as we know them to be -
but the dead as Hollywood thinks them to be apt
and able to rake in massive audiences...
Because who would pay to see a film
about our dead ancestors
simply happy to be remembered,
ghostly but there, benevolent
as they are looking over you
as you flock over to the cemetery
in adoring droves (rather than tearful)
bringing the deceased's favorite dish
which is left on the tombstone
and swiftly pilfered the moment you leave
by gypsies, drifters or other bums
just waiting around for a free meal
on this day or couple of days...?
(Actually, in Christian-devout Portugal,
O Dia Dos Mortos
is the occasion to outright GIFT
one of them poor bums out there;
you either feed them
or dress them up
-from head to toe, yeah;
new clothes and new shoes-
all in the name of
and in the memory of
your dearly beloved
deceased one...
Viva Portugal -
mesmo na Morte!)
But here in movieland, if the dead are evil
and vengeful dead, to boot,
(and there are plenty of such dead souls, too,
out there, somewhere - indeed)
and they come back in the flesh
(even though a rotten and decaying one)
any two-bit Roger Corman wannabee will say
''GOLD!''
and roll out (minimal) financing
for shooting to begin...!
The return on investment
(for this sort of return of the dead)
is very nearly guaranteed
each and every time...!
And another z-movie is born...
With all that in mind,
we present now our feature presentation...
And if that didn't work out for you...
Or even play...
You can try this
and this
or even this...
Or...
Try looking for it all by yourself!
