60 Years Ago Today, ILN...
In Lugubrious News...
1950: In midst of divorce proceedings resulting in a nervous breakdown and subsequent commitment to a mental hospital, Frances Fonda, born Ford Seymour but losing her name when she became wife to actor Henry, kills herself in the most gruesome way - at the age of 42.
Jane, Peter, Bridget and every Fonda that remains remember.
My condolences and complete sympathy.
Frances Ford Seymour is not to be confused with Frances Farmer - who was also, although briefly, institutionalized, rumoured to have even been lobotomized into submission, but died of a slow-progressing, systematic killer known as the c-illness. She was only fourteen years older than the other Frances when she passed away.
Frances Ford Seymour Fonda's tragedy is recounted in the following video (subject to availability, as always):
And in other lugubrious news - historical facts, actually, on this very same date:
1839: A rain of fish falls on Calcutta.
RIP - fishies.
1865: President Lincoln -Honest Abe- is shot by the vile John Wilkes Booth - and he won't make it through tomorrow.
RIP Abraham.
1912: RMS Titanic strikes iceberg in the North Atlantic. A big one.
RIP - most of the passengers and crew.
April is mostly remembered for this, ever since then, really...
1959: Danish bicyclist chased by disc-shaped UFO near Svendborg.
He survived. (Until Men In Black made him disappear, that is?)
1966: Drugmaker Sandoz stops producing LSD.
Countless have died since - partially of deprivation, one can only assume...?
1992: United States Patent No. 5,104,608 is issued for a Programmable Christmas Tree. The Death of the Traditional Christmas may be traced much further back than this, though...
2010: Each and everyone of us still around got one day closer to our own earthly ends...
