Sandra Dee - 2 Years Ago...
Sandra Dee ~ 1942-2005
Dodd Darin, son of the late singer Bobby Darin, said his mother was 63 when she passed away, though a number of movie websites pinpointed her birth date variously at April 23, 1942, and April 23, 1944, which would have made her 62 or 60.
Whatever it was, dying in your sixties is still way too young to die in my book...
According to Dodd, she died at exactly 6:00AM on this date, February 20, 2005.
The fact is, Sandra Dee was born Alexandra Zuck in Bayonne, New Jersey, and her mother often lied about her age to help her get ahead in work and school - all of this according to the website Internet Movie Database (IMDB.com).
Sandra Dee's career was basically over by the time she reached the age of 26 though - goes to show that, sometimes, efforts are for naught indeed... Her film career officially ended with one last film in 1983...
She married Bobby Darin in 1960 - divorced him in 1967...
As her star diminished, she battled anorexia, alcoholism and depression, all still according to the website source... Finally, she was diagnosed with throat cancer and kidney failure in 2000.
Her dear Bobby passed away first, in 1973, as his own career was still going but nonetheless waning as well...
She left behind her son and two grand-daughters - Alexa and Olivia.

Kate Bosworth portrayed Sandra Dee recently in "Beyond The Sea", opposite Kevin Spacey, of course, as Bobby Darin...
Bosworth then became Lois Lane and Spacey, Lex Luthor, in the lamentable "Superman Returns", in which Superman is trying so hard to be messiah-like...
Is that someone's idea to send the message that Sandra & Bobby are up there, in heaven, with Jesus now - waaaaaay beyond the sea indeed... Hmm?
I'd agree that both are in a "good spot" now - away from the boulevard of broken dreams anyway... THAT is for sure...
Away from Hollywood blasphemy too...

But if the amalgamation of
Sandra Dee/Lois Lane
and
Bobby Darin/Lex Luthor
is meant to say that the Super-crappy mythos is so much better than Beyond The Sea/Aquaman fare...
I disagree strongly.
Bobby knew better; he knew that the catchy part of his seminal hit Beyond The Sea was indeed... the Sea!
That's what the audience connected with - see?
Aquaman is from the sea - Superman is from... the void of space!
No one in the 50's (except maybe Kennedy) really "connected" with THAT...!
