The Boston Celtics are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Bobby Vines, a cornerstone of our organization.
Bobby passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 1, 2010.
He was the smiling face of the Celtics organization for numerous fans and groups around Boston.
The team's heart goes out to his family, including his two children Nikyla and Christian.
He will be deeply missed.
Vines, Robert Leonard "Bobby", May 1, 2010. Died, suddenly, after a lifelong battle with Sickle Cell Anemia. Bobby was a friend to many and never met a person who remained a stranger for long. Bobby was an active Advisory Board member of the Greater Boston Sickle Cell Disease Association and worked hard to raise awareness of the disease and to help find a cure. He was loyal to his family, friends and employer and worked as part of the Celtics organization for over 15 years.
Bobby leaves his beloved children Nikyla and Christian Vines and their mother Annette Vines. Dear son of Mary and Elbert L. Vines, Sr. of Dorchester. Loving brother of Elbert L. Vines, Jr., John G., Linwood G., J. Michael, and Elena M. Vines and Minnie E. Cabey. He is survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends and colleagues at the Boston Celtics. Funeral service Saturday at Prince Hall Masonic Temple, 24 Washington St., Dorchester (Grove Hall). Visiting with the family at 10 AM, service begins 12 PM. Burial Mt. Hope Cemetery.
